Sir,

Enclosure 2.

414

Colonial Secretary's Office,

Hongkong,

12th May, 1922.

I am directed to forward for the considerat-

ion of the British Members of your Chamber the enclosed copy of a Circular despatch from the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the question of the possibility of substituting British for American motor vehicles in the

Colonial Markets.

2.

It is understood that Messrs. Alexander Ross

& Co. have introduced British cars into the Colony, and

their opinion would be of value.

3.

With regard to paragraph 3 of the despatch,

this Government will be interested to learn to what cause

your Chamber attributes the fact that British heavy lorries and motor-cycles can successfully compete with American products, whereas America practically controls the market as regards touring cars and light lorries.

(Sd.)

I am,

&C..

M. Fletcher,

Colonial Secretary.

The Secretary,

Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce.
